About The Video

The VMI Remote Dredging System was designed and manufactured by VMI staff to give operators two ways to work: traditional onboard operation from the climate-controlled cabin or remote operation from a portable control console.

The remote console gives operators the same controls and information available onboard the dredge, including precise adjustments for winch, pump, and engine speeds. Electronic sensors send live pressure, temperature, and flow-rate readings back to the operator for real-time feedback.

With digital spread spectrum radio communication, up to 12 hours of battery-powered operation, optional 12-volt external power, and control from up to 2,000 feet away, the system is built for productivity, comfort, and safer operation on demanding dredging sites.

The new remote dredging system is the first of its kind to be completely designed and manufactured by VMI staff. The system offers VMI customers two modes of operation to provide the flexibility to confidently pursue any dredging job.

In the traditional mode, the dredge operates based on input from the onboard control system located in the climate-controlled cabin. In remote mode, the dredge operates based on input from a portable battery-powered remote control console.

The remote console provides operators with all of the same controls and information available onboard the dredge. Designed specifically for precision, the remote control system allows operators to make extremely fine adjustments to winch, pump, and engine speeds.

Electronic sensors onboard the dredge transmit live readings for system pressures, temperatures, and flow rate, providing the operator with instantaneous feedback. The control console communicates with the dredge through a state-of-the-art digital spread spectrum radio system that provides a reliable connection free of interference.

The remote console can operate for up to 12 hours on a single battery charge or connect to any 12-volt power source to operate indefinitely. Many dredging job sites expose operators to harsh weather, poisonous H2S gas, and other adverse conditions.

By allowing the dredge to be piloted from a safe location up to 2,000 feet from the job site, VMI's remote dredging system provides operators with an unmatched level of safety and comfort. Whether the dredge is operated from onboard controls or remote control console, the machine provides the same industry-leading productivity, efficiency, and longevity that have made VMI dredges the preferred choice for contractors and municipalities all over the world.
