About The Video

This video explains the VMI Sabertooth Horizontal Cutterhead and why it is built for demanding sediment, brush, debris, and heavy-duty dredging applications.

The demonstration covers cutterhead torque, the 104 cutting teeth used on the 8-inch Sabertooth version, configurable paddle and trencher tooth options, and VMI's full-width suction box design that pulls material across the full width of the cutterhead instead of relying on one small center opening.

Then the MD-815 Horizontal Dredge proves the point in the VMI test pond by chewing through real-world debris and showing the kind of cutting power, suction, and debris handling operators need on the job.

Video Transcript

Robbie with VMI Dredges introduces the VMI Sabertooth Horizontal Cutterhead and explains what sets VMI horizontal dredges apart from the competition. The video focuses on cutterhead torque, cutting force, and the performance advantages of the Sabertooth design.

The Sabertooth Horizontal Cutterhead is described as having industry-leading torque, giving VMI dredges the power to chew through brush, weeds, debris, dense mud, and sediment without getting bogged down. The 8-inch version of the Sabertooth uses 104 cutting teeth, and the cutterhead can be configured with paddle teeth, trencher teeth, or a combination of both to match the jobsite conditions.

The video also explains VMI's full-width suction box design. Instead of pulling material through one small opening at the center of the cutterhead, the Sabertooth applies suction across the full width of the cutterhead to pull in more of the material being disturbed. This helps improve production and reduce turbidity around the dredge.

At the VMI test pond in Cushing, Oklahoma, a VMI MD-815 Horizontal Dredge demonstrates the Sabertooth cutterhead in action. The dredge is shown handling pampas grass, sticks, brush, golf balls, tennis balls, softballs, boards, and a round bale of hay. The demonstration highlights the cutterhead's torque, suction, debris handling, recessed impeller pump design, and overall horizontal dredge performance.
