Cutterhead Suction Dredge
VMI builds cutter suction dredges in a variety of sizes and configurations for use around the globe.
The MDX-820CS cutter suction dredge comes equipped with a 10 inch (250mm) suction and 8 inch (200mm) discharge pump and a standard maximum dredging depth of 20 feet (6 meters). The MDX series is a conventional cable swing dredge line with the ability to use either spuds and/or a tail winch to suit different applications. The MDX line provides a high level of performance in a compact, sectional design for transportation by trucks or containers.
Our dual acting boom cylinders for 20 feet (6 meters) and 27 feet (8.2 meters) maximum digging depth provide power up and down so additional force may be applied downward on the cutter head while digging. Our optional spuds feature a rack and pinion drive system that provides power up and down allowing the ability to force the spuds down into the ground and hold their position. Our free floating spud option allows the ability to place the spuds into free sliding mode for changing water levels while the dredge is not in use. Optional maximum digging depths up to 42 feet (12.8 meters), tail winch, and different cutting edges are available.
